To kick off today, we’re highlighting the Assessment Gap…
Around half a million people are waiting for Care Act assessments or reviews, it’s estimated.
Recent examples of CASCAIDr’s work include people waiting months for an assessment, or for an assessment to be completed, with additional hurdles en route, and lack of assessment planning at obvious transition points.
People need to know that they may well have a right to undertake a self-assessment, have one done online in most situations, or they can ask for assessment to be delegated to competent outside assessors! There is simply no legal excuse for anything more than minimal delay.
Parents also need to know that until an adults’ needs assessment is done for someone transitioning from children’s services, the children’s service care plan remains in place – that’s the law, even if someone turns 18!
